The best way to learn how to paddle is to take a lesson and from whom better to take a lesson than a Certified Instructor.
Canoe Kayak Nova Scotia (CKNS) as part of its mandate to promote safe recreational canoeing and kayaking offers the opportunity for paddlers in cooperation with the Paddle Canada (PC) to become Instructors. CKNS has worked very closely with PC to establish a national recognized certification and paddling skills program.
A paddler would start out by taking a skill clinic in their chosen discipline, (Flatwater Canoeing, Lake water Canoeing, Moving water Canoeing, Coastal Canoeing, Canoe Tripping, Canoe Poling, Flatwater Kayaking, River Kayaking, Sea Kayaking)
As they work their way through the natural progression of skill levels and gains experience on the water they may chose to become an Instructor in their discipline.
Some of the benefits of taking a clinic or course from a CKNS/PC certified Instructor are:
- natural progression of skills
- nationally recognized program, transferable to most provinces in Canada
- accepted by many Provincial and National organizations as the Standard
- enables you to better enjoy the activity
